Why we build this
Ember started at a kitchen table. Checking on work meant going up three flights of stairs, and with a baby to feed, that walk is the difference between keeping an eye on things and not. So we built the thing that removes the stairs: the models on your own machines, in your hand, wherever you happen to be.

Ember Desktop
Your phone, your PC's brains
Ember Desktop is a small Windows app that answers your phone's chats. It can use your ChatGPT subscription, an OpenAI key, or free, private Ollama models on your own hardware.
It works away from home too. No port forwarding, no VPN, nothing to set up on your router.
For Mac users the web app is available.
Two Android builds: the full one carries Anthropic's own library for the Claude API card; Ember lite leaves it out and is about half the size.
Android phones and tablets · Windows 10 or 11 · 1.6 MB · Linux: .deb for Ubuntu/Debian, or an AppImage for Intel/AMD or ARM64 (NVIDIA GX10/DGX Spark, Raspberry Pi 5). Claude Remote needs the Windows version.
On an iPad, or anything you would rather not install on, open the web version and scan the square in Ember Desktop's window.
- Install Ember Desktop on your PC and pick your models.
- On your phone, open Ember → Settings → Ember Desktop (your PC) → Scan.
- Point it at the square in the desktop window. That's it — the two codes are there to type if you'd rather.

Installing the Android app: open the downloaded file, and allow your browser to install apps if Android asks. Ember updates itself from then on.
